Q1 2025 Full Commission Meeting Held

WASHINGTON, February 19, 2025 – The Interstate Commission for EMS Personnel Practice, the governmental body responsible for the interstate practice of Emergency Medical Services in the United States and operations of the EMS Compact, convened its Q1 2025 Full Commission Meeting on February 19, 2025. The Commission is composed of one governor-appointed commissioner from each EMS Compact member state.

During the meeting, the Commission unanimously adopted Position Paper 2025-01: EMS Workforce Privacy Protection. This position paper underscores the critical need to safeguard Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and bulk licensure data of EMS Clinicians. It reinforces the foundational principles of the EMS Compact while calling for consistent standards and practices across all states and State EMS Offices. This initiative aligns with federal laws, best practices, and the growing necessity to mitigate risks posed by nefarious actors.

Additionally, the Commission adopted a significant update to its Administrative Rules, marking the conclusion of over a year of dedicated work. The newly adopted rules introduce major updates to the National EMS Coordinated Database, clarify provisions related to the Privilege to Practice, and standardize the nomenclature of 'EMS Clinician' across all Compact member states. These updates were adopted unanimously by all EMS Compact member states with a delegate in attendance and are effective immediately.
