Reach the Interstate Commission for EMS Personnel Practice by phone, email, or mail.
The Interstate Commission for EMS Personnel Practice administers the United States EMS Compact. We are glad to help clinicians, employers, medical directors, state officials, and members of the public.
Individual EMS Clinicians: Start With Your State EMS Office
The EMS Compact is operationalized through your state EMS office. The Commission does not license individuals, set scope of practice, or maintain a clinician's licensure record, and it cannot modify, update, or change your data in the National EMS Coordinated Database (NEMSCD). That information is owned and corrected by the states.
If you have a question about your scope of practice, your licensure, or your status in the NEMSCD, direct it to:
- your Home State, the state where you are licensed, or
- your Remote State, the state where you are functioning as an EMS clinician.
Your Home State maintains and corrects your licensure record and reports it to the Coordinated Database. Your Remote State governs how you may practice while you are working there. If your record shows something you believe is inaccurate, the Home State that issued your license is the office that can research and correct it.
To find the right office, see States & Commissioners for each participating state's commissioner and EMS authority. To check what the Coordinated Database currently shows for a clinician, use Quick Verify EMS Status. For background on how practicing in another state works, see the EMS Clinician Guide and Privilege to Practice & FAQs.

How can we help?
For the fastest answer, the question often points to the right place:
- EMS clinicians with questions about licensure, scope of practice, or NEMSCD status: see the section above and contact your Home or Remote State EMS office.
- To report a complaint or a compliance concern, see Report Complaints or Compliance Issues.
- If you are a state official exploring enactment, see How States Join and Legislative Resources.
- For meeting schedules and public notices, see Meetings & Public Notices. To receive notices by email, subscribe to public notices.
If your question does not fit any of these, reach out by phone or email and we will direct it to the right person.
